The host Lady Devils took a 21-2 first-quarter lead on Cabell Midland, ranked No. 6 this week’s West Virginia Class AAA poll. The Lady Knights charged back to get within three and had a triple in the air to tie at the buzzer, but it missed as Russell pulled out a 57-54 decision on Monday night.

Kaeli Ross scored 21 points, draining five 3-pointers, and Malia Blevins netted 13 for the Lady Devils (19-6).

KK Potter scored 14 points, Jayda Allie dropped in 13, Autumn Lewis netted 12 and Rylee Allie delivered 10 for Cabell Midland.

WESTWOOD Jordan Rakes scored a career-high 28 points, punctuated by a 5-for-6 showing at the foul line in the fourth quarter, to lead the host Lady Eagles to their 19th win in 24 outings this season.

Rakes went 10 for 14 for the game on free throws as Fairview preserved what was a one-point lead through three frames.

Sarah Paige Weddington scored 16 points and Cheyenne D’Souza dropped in 14 for the Lady Lions (14-12).

Trailing the Lady Rams 13-12 through one quarter, host Boyd County outscored Raceland 26-8 in the second quarter and 25-14 in the third to take control.

Bailey Rucker scored 17 points, Emma Borders collected 15, Harley Paynter dropped in 14 and Isabella Caldwell netted 10 for the Lady Lions (14-9), who splashed 11 3-pointers.

Kierston Smith came up with 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Rams (6-15). Emilee Garvin added 10 points.

Kenny Wilburn and Kai Coleman each scored 17 points and Stephan Barker dropped in 13 for Rose Hill (4-18).

Wilburn and Barker each cleared nine rebounds.

Austin Smith paced the Tartans with 13 points.

The Royals last won consecutive games on Dec. 10 and 15, 2018. Those were against Covenant (West Virginia) and Portsmouth East, just like these two.
