ASHLAND Up only four points after one quarter, Boyd County turned to the power of five.

The visiting Lions placed five players in double figures and held Rose Hill Christian to five points in the second quarter in an 88-48 Boyd County victory on Tuesday night.

Blake Stewart led the Lions (9-6, 2-0 64th District seeding) with 22 points. Jason Ellis pitched in a career-high 16, Brad Newsome netted 15, JB Walter delivered 13 and Carson Webb produced 12.

Kenny Wilburn scored 18 points and Stephan Barker tallied 15 for the Royals (2-9, 0-2), who were within 16-12 through the first quarter before the Lions outscored them 26-5 in the second frame.

The Lions and Royals meet again on Jan. 30 at Catlettsburg Elementary.

ASHLAND The visiting Lady Bobcats pulled away from a 24-17 halftime lead by outscoring the Lady Royals 17-5 in the third quarter on Tuesday night.

Kasey Kimbler pitched in 28 points for Green (8-4), converting six treys. Kame Sweeney netted 10.

Delaynee Sparks totaled 13 points for Rose Hill (7-5).

The teams meet again on Feb. 7 in Franklin Furnace.
