The first The Daily Independent Northeastern Kentucky Prep Football Media Poll of the season bears a striking resemblance to the final balloting of last fall.
The top three teams are the same — Johnson Central (2-0), Ashland (3-0) and Paintsville (2-1), in that order — as last fall's final regular season balloting.
The Golden Eagles claimed seven of eight first-place votes. The Tomcats snared the other one. They will not meet to settle it once and for all — the longtime district rivals are now in different classes.
Russell (2-1) sits fourth, following by No. 5 Raceland (2-1), sixth-ranked Greenup County (2-1) and No. 7 East Carter (3-0).
Lawrence County (2-1) is eighth, West Carter (1-1) is ninth and Rowan County (2-1) holds down the final spot.
Eight media members voted.
