BUCKLEYS CREEK Battling from behind the entire second half, Lawrence County got within 40-35 of Pike County Central on Friday night on Baden Gillispie’s fifth scoring run of the night and S.J. Lycans’ extra point with 10:54 to go.

The Hawks answered with a 52-yard scoring run from Matt Anderson about four minutes later, and that score provided the final margin — a 48-35 Pike County Central victory in Class 3A, District 8 play.

Gillispie ran nine times for 131 yards and all five Bulldogs (3-4, 1-1 district) touchdowns. Blue Fletcher ran 12 times for 172 yards.

That wasn’t enough to top Anderson, who came up with 235 yards and three scores for the Hawks (6-1, 2-0 district).

Pike County Central outgained Lawrence County 529 yards to 342 and held the ball for 32:04 to the Bulldogs’ 15:56.

MAYSVILLE The Panthers scored two touchdowns in a span of 99 seconds to break a third-quarter 13-13 tie in their sixth straight victory in this Class 3A, District 6 border rivalry.

Kaleb Flanery ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 3:54 to go in the third quarter, and Carsen Gulley added a 40-yard pick-six at the 2:05 mark.

Jonathan Maher threw for 113 yards and ran for 127 yards and a TD for Fleming County (5-2, 2-0 district). Flanery added a 42-yard scoring punt return.

Carson Brammer threw for 157 yards, two touchdowns and three picks for Mason County (3-4, 1-1 district). Jeremiah Jones caught a 45-yard scoring pass and returned a punt 55 yards to the house.
