The International League named Chandler Shepherd its Player of the Month for August.
As a starter for the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides, the right-hander led all qualifying starting pitchers with a 1.62 earned run average and 0.90 WHIP while limiting opposing hitters to a .181 average.
The 27-year-old Lawrence County High School product also made his Major League debut in August. He tossed four innings of one-run baseball against the Yankees in New York.
The former Kentucky Wildcat is on Baltimore’s active roster.

Player of Month
Cincinnati’s Aristides Aquino earned the distinction of National League Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month for August.
Aquino has been smacking home runs at a record-setting pace. In August, the outfielder batted .320 with 22 runs scored, four doubles, 14 home runs, 33 RBIs, 10 walks, two stolen bases and a .767 slugging percentage in 29 games played.
Aquino tied Frank Robinson (August 1962) and Greg Vaughn (September 1999) for most homers by any Red in any calendar month.
Aquino went deep in four consecutive contests from Aug. 6-10, including a three-bomb game against the Cubs on Aug. 10 at Great American Ball Park.
