The deadline to enter the Miss Flame Pageant 2019 is Aug. 17.
Open to a variety of age groups, the pageant will begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Boyd County Extension Office, 2420 Center St.
Categories will be:
n 3 p.m. — Birth to 35 months (boys and girls);
n 4 p.m. — Teeny, Tiny and Little Miss (ages 3 through 8);
n 6 p.m. — Little Junior, Junior and Miss (ages 9 through 19.
Boys also may compete for Little Mr. Fire Chief (ages 3, 4 and 5) and Junior Mr. Fire Chief (agest 6, 7 and 8).
Pageant attire will include Sunday best outfits.
Applications are available at Angie’s Actionwear in Catlettsburg, Catlettsburg Fire and Police departments, Lara’s in Ashland, Wilma’s at the Kyova Mall and Tri-State Pawn and Jewelry. Registration is $40. Entry fee for the photogenic contest is $10.

The Creative Expo 2019 will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Garrison Horse Show Ring.
The event was created for artists to set up, show off and sell their homemade and homegrown products.
Setup will begin at 8 a.m.
The Rough Riders Saddle Club of Lewis County will have its September horse show that evening. Registration will begin at 5 p.m.; the show starts at 6 p.m.

Music, arts fest
slated for Aug. 26
The 10th annual Huntington Music and Arts Festival will be from Aug. 26 through Sept. 1 at 1 Caldwell Road.
Blind Faith tickets are $10 and are available at hmafestival.com, which includes admission into the all-day event on Aug. 31st; other events throughout the week are free.

The Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District will offer a free Women’s Self-Defense Class at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Ritter Park Amphitheater.
The two-hour session will include basic self-defense techniques. Women of all ages are welcome.
