CATLETTSBURG In what proved to be the start of an eventful weekend for Boyd County Sheriff’s deputies, two men were taken into custody early Saturday morning following reports of a Friday night assault.
The two victims were struck from behind with a blunt object after they told the suspects to turn down their music, according to court records.
At 10:52 p.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched to the 1800 block of Shopes Creek Road for reports of a person screaming and gun shots. Upon arrival, deputies found one victim with severe bleeding from his head and another with a large bruise near his temple, records show.
The two victims identified 49-year-old Stephen C. Fields and 37-year-old Todd A. Lesniak as the suspects in the assault, deputies said.
Both victims were treated by EMS, with one sent to King’s Daughter Medical Center for further treatment, records show.
Deputies began searching the area for any threats, due to reports of gun fire, deputies said. After knocking on the door of one home, deputies walked around the property to see if there were any witnesses or victims around, court records show. Through a window, deputies noticed Lesniak’s feet, records show. Once roused from his slumber, Lesniak became “extremely loud and belligerent,” deputies said. He eventually opened the door for deputies, but attempted to retreat back inside, court records show.
In order to prevent him from grabbing any potential weapons, Lesniak was taken to the ground and arrested, deputies said.
Fields has been charged with second-degree assault as a result of the investigation. Lesniak is listed as a suspect in the assault, but has yet to be charged in connection with it. He was charged with resisting arrest.
Fields is currently being held at the Boyd County Detention Center without bond, while Lesniak currently has a $1,500 bond.
