Rocky one

Rocky Adkins, second from right, got some time in on stage during a celebration of his candidacy for governor in Sandy Hook Friday night.

Elliott County and Sandy Hook, Kentucky, celebrated one of their own on Friday night.

A large crowd came out to the Elliott County High School and Performing Arts Center to welcome Elliott County native Rocky Adkins, who recently announced he is running for governor of the Commonwealth.

"We had an outstanding event in my home community of Elliott County and Sandy Hook," Adkins said. "We had a wonderful crowd, a lot of energy, tremendous support. There were also many folks who came in from the region and surrounding counties. It is just more positive energy we've gotten since we announced."

Adkins announced his bid for governor in November during a kick-off event in Morehead. More than 1,000 people attended that event. Adkins is expected to face off in the primary against Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear.

"It's very humbling to see this kind of response," Adkins said. "Very humbling, very encouraging, and we are very thankful for having this type of support."
