ASHLAND An Ashland man who had been missing since Oct. 16 was found dead on Monday and an Ohio man has been charged with murder, according to the Ashland Police Department.
The body of Justin Reeder, 21, of Ashland was found along County road 218 / Tunnel Ridge Road near Ironton, according to the Lawrence County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Department. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the sheriff’s department worked together on the recovery.
Jacob E. Lane, 24, of Franklin-Furnace, Ohio, was charged with murder in connection with Reeder’s death.
Lane was arrested Friday night by the APD on a second-degree burglary charge in a separate investigation. He was already in custody at the Boyd County Detention Center prior to the murder charge.
Reeder’s body was turned over to the Boyd County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy is pending with the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s office.
APD detectives are working alongside the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies in the investigation.
Reeder was reported missing on Monday morning after disappearing Sunday night. His vehicle and clothing were at home and he had been last seen on a skateboard.
Family said it was out of character for Reeder to be gone for such a long period of time. He also checked in regularly on Facebook but hadn’t since being reported missing.
The APD opened an active investigation on Monday. Reeder’s family and friends combed the area frantically looking for him.
The APD will have a press conference Tuesday at 10 a.m.
