A 20-year-old male stabbed a female and killed two small dogs inside a residence on Pleasant Run Road in West Liberty on Monday.
Luther Kimbler, who had been staying at the residence with the victim and the victim’s fiancé prior to the incident, according to Morgan County Sheriff Greg Motley, caused minor injuries to the woman by stabbing her with a household knife. The victim, Samantha Johnson, said she was stabbed in her sleep. Johnson said the injuries were more than minor. She said she sustained nerve damage to her arm and is unable to use it at this time.
Officers determined that Kimbler drowned two small dogs inside the residence before stabbing the victim. Police did not identify the victim. Johnson, who released her identity to The Daily Independent, was treated and released from Morgan County ARH Hospital.
Kimbler is lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center. He is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree cruelty to animals.
According to Motley, Kimbler provided no motive. He admitted to consuming a “considerable amount” of alcohol prior to killing the dogs and stabbing Johnson.
Johnson was treated at the hospital at around 3 a.m. Motley and Kentucky State Police Trooper Ethan Crouch arrested Kimbler at about 10 a.m., several hours later, after they located him walking along Hwy. 519.
The case remains under investigation by KSP Detective Justin Flannery and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
