Lucy center stage

Jan Booth and Rhonda Bond take the stage in “Lucy Sings!” River Magic Chorus’ annual show.

HUNTINGTON River Magic Chorus, Huntington’s chapter of Sweet Adelines International, will present “Lucy Sings!” at 3 and 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Renaissance Center, 900 Eighth St.

River Magic director Beverly Miller, said the show requires singers to don costumes to resemble Lucille Ball in the television program “I Love Lucy.”

“It’s been a lot of fun watching the chorus turn into a sea of redheaded singers every week as we prepared for the show,” Miller, a member of the 40-member chorus, said.

As for the chorus members, getting into those wigs and costumes has brought out their “inner Lucys,” they agreed.

“I grew up with Lucy and Ricky,” Patsy Stephenson said. “I even had a big crush on Ricky.  With my red wig, lots of polka dots, and pearls, I’m ready to be a redhead and get my Lucy on!”

The ThunderTones, the local men’s barbershop chorus directed by Steve Patrick, will be guests on the second half of the show, and the Sweet Divas, local women who have been guests at River Magic’s rehearsals for seven weeks, will make their onstage debut as they join the chorus for two closing numbers.

Tickets are $15 for adults,  $12 for seniors and students; children will be admitted  free. For more information or to reserve tickets, call (304) 416-2992 or email email rivermagicchorus@yahoo.com.
