Cannonsburg and Summit-Ironville fire departments work on removing an accident victem from a two-car accident on U.S. 60 in front of KYOVA Mall.

One man was killed and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 60 in Boyd County.

The wreck occurred about 2:25 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Commerce Park Drive, in front of Town Square Bank and Mr. Gatti’s. The vehicles involved were a gray Ford Taurus and a white Nissan four-wheel-drive pickup.

According to Boyd County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Donta, the driver of the Taurus pulled from Commerce Park Drive into the path of the pickup, which was traveling westbound on U.S. 60.

The driver of the Taurus, an elderly man, was pronounced dead at the scene by Boyd Deputy Coroner Rob Garnes.

A female passenger in the Taurus and the female driver of the Nissan both were taken by helicopter to St. Mary’s Medical Center. The pickup driver appeared to be the more seriously injured of the two, Donta said.

A passenger in the Nissan, a female, was taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center.

The Nissan had heavy front-end damage. The Taurus and the body of the driver both were shielded from the view of passing motorists by fire and rescue vehicles parked in a circle around them.

The accident shut down one lane on each side of the four-lane stretch of U.S. 60 and slowed traffic to a crawl.

Firefighters from the Cannonsburg and Summit-Ironville volunteer fire department responded to the wreck.
