Local chili lovers will need to put their appetites on hold for a couple of months.

Ashland’s annual Great Bowls of Fire chili cookoff and festival, which had been scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.

The reason? Lack of participation, according to Cheryl Spriggs, the event’s chairwoman.

“We only had eight red chili cooks sign up. We needed at least 20 to retain our ICS (International Chili Society) regional standing,” she said. “I’d rather postpone it than have a mediocre cookoff.”
