RUSSELL One local business raised approximately $1,000 in October to be donated to breast cancer research.
Sideburns Stadium Haircuts, located at 390 Diederich Blvd., conducted a fundraiser campaign throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and donated $1 for every photo taken with their “Knock Out Breast Cancer” pink gloves, or a photo with pink hairspray.
Sideburns also encouraged clients to match their $1 donation per photo.
The proceeds will benefit the Diabolical Boob Posse, a local nonprofit organization created by Tippi Thompson, a breast cancer survivor.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014,” said Thompson. “I created the foundation later that summer.”
“I chose Diabolical Boob Posse because it's a local organization that actually takes action to help families that are being hit by this terrible disease and fighting for their lives,” said Diamond Lewis, owner of Sideburns Stadium Haircuts. “I wanted our money to stay local and help people right here.”
The non-profit organization assisted with funding cancer research at Ohio Southern University and now primarily supports those affected by breast cancer. The non-profit provides financial supports to newly diagnosed individuals in the form of gas cards to assist with transportation to treatment, covering wig costs for those undergoing chemotherapy, and works closely with the women’s centers at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Thompson said there is a Diabolical Boob 5K each July. Lewis had previously joined her during the race.
Thompson said she was ecstatic to hear that $1,000 will go to the Diabolical Boob Posse.
“That’s tremendous, that’s amazing,” said Thompson. “Usually we deliver $20 to $25 gift cards, so that’s a huge amount to help.”
“Team Sideburns has the most amazing clients,” said Lewis. “We asked for them to match us, even if they weren’t getting the picture taken, see if they wanted to match our dollar, and we raised over $600 just like that.”
