WURTLAND Kentucky State Police were on scene Monday evening investigating a shooting in the 100 block of Roar Cemetery Road.
Multiple cruisers were on scene after a call came in for reports of a person shot in the head with a 30-30 rifle around 5 p.m.
By just before 2 a.m., KSP distributed a news release that stated Michael Meade, 61, of Wurtland, was transported by Greenup County EMS to St. Mary’s Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries and observation. He advised 911 dispatchers that Herman D. Bays, 59, of Wurtland, had shot him in the head.
Bays barricaded himself within the residence. The KSP Special Response Team responded to the scene.
State troopers could be seen brandishing rifles as they walked over the hill from State Rt. 503 to the scene of the shooting. An ambulance remained on scene across the road.
Bays eventually came to the door and was arrested without further incident.
Bays was arrested on the charge of first-degree assault and lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center. More charges are expected as the investigation is still ongoing.
The incident remains under investigation by KSP Detective Daniel Cook. KSP personnel, Greenup County Sheriff’s Department, Greenup Police and Greenup County EMS assisted on the scene.
