RUSSELL A man who was found dead after he went missing from a Russell convalescent home fell off an overpass, the county coroner said.
A cause of death for Jeffrey Mollett, 52, is still pending.
Greenup County Coroner Neil Wright released some basic details on the investigation so far into the death of Mollett. Mollett was reported missing from the Russell Convalescenet Home.
“He was found deceased on July 24, 2019 underneath the overpass in Russell, Kentucky,” said Wright..
Wright said that he is still awaiting the final autopsy results from the medical examiner with the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Frankfort.
“The state's involvement is only to assist the coroner and law enforcement,” said Wright.
“I have not received the final autopsy results yet, so unofficially it’s been ruled accidental or still under investigation,” said Wright. Wright said that the toxicology for Mollett was negative.
Wright said that Mollett fell from the overpass in Russell and his body was discovered by construction workers 24 hours to 36 hours after the accident.
“It will be ruled an accident at this time,” said Wright. “I don't think we have enough to rule a suicide. I have no proof that Mr. Mollett tried to take his own life.”
“The fall was about 45 feet,” said Wright.
Mollett was on several medications, according to Greenup County E-911.
“Mr. Mollett had diminished mental capacity and was a ward of the state,” said Wright.
“It was a tragic ending to something that was preventable,” said Wright.
