Elks Car

Crews work to extract a Hyundai Sonata from the Elks Lodge.

ASHLAND Rescue crews rushed to the Ashland Elks Lodge in the 900 block of Carter Avenue Wednesday morning after a car burst through the side of the building.

At around 9:40 a.m., Elks B.P.O.E 350 manager William Grace said he was standing with some patrons in the bar area when the Hyundai Sonata slammed through the brick wall.

“It was like a bomb went off,” Grace said.

Grace said the driver said she didn’t recall the crash.

“From what I gather, she had blacked out and went through the wall,” Grace said. “I don’t think she was injured and one lady in here said her leg hurt.”

Ashland Fire, Ashland Police, a Boyd County Sheriff and Boyd County EMS responded to the scene to pull the car out of the building. One woman was rushed off by EMS.

Deputy Chief Steve Alley confirmed the driver was taken to a hospital for medical attention, while the woman complaining of leg pain refused treatment at the scene.

Grace said this wasn’t the first time this happened at the lodge. More than a year ago, another car slammed into a different wing of the building, he said. The Elks rebuilt it last winter, he added.
