CATLETTSBURG A Boyd County couple is behind bars after Boyd County deputies seized drugs and cash during a Wednesday traffic stop, according to court records.

James D. Daniels Jr., 57, of Ashland, and 48-year-old Melissa Daniels, of Catlettsburg, were charged following a traffic stop at the Marathon station on U.S. 23 near Interstate 64. The deputy stopped the two around 7 p.m. after seeing Melissa riding in the 2004 Lincoln Town Car due to the fact she had an outstanding parole warrant, court records show.

Upon searching the two, deputies discovered a large amount of cash, approximately one gram of heroin and one gram of methamphetamine, according to the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department. Small, unused bags were also found in Melissa Daniels’ purse, the arrest warrant noted.

Melissa Daniels was booked on one count of trafficking in heroin, one count of trafficking in methamphetamine and her parole warrant. James Daniels was booked on one count of first-degree possession of heroin (first offense). Melissa is being held on a $10,000 bond, while James is being held on a $1,000 bond, per jail records.
