ASHLAND As Jessica Pereira looked around the restaurant, she sighed with relief and said “This is the dream.”

Pereira , along with her husband, Irvin, finally got to see all their hard work pay off Tuesday evening as they officially cut the ribbon and had a soft opening of Blazer’s Restaurant and Bakery.

“We are so thankful for the community,” Irvin Pereira said.

“They have helped us through every part of it.” Mrs. Pereira said.

City leaders and other guests attended the event to sample the wide array of foods set out in a buffet and commented on how wonderful it tasted.

“It is beautiful in here and so classy and elegant,” Carol Allen said as she sat with friends trying the food. “The food is wonderful, everything tastes great.”

As guests looked around at the decorations and commented on the ice sculptures sculpted by Pereira, many thanked the Pereiras for having them and shook hands with the couple.

“My son is an executive chef in Lexington and this food is right up there with their food,” Donna Vital said.

Once guests had the chance to eat, many stuck around to see the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

“I’m so excited to welcome Blazer’s to downtown Ashland,” Ashland Mayor Steve Gilmore said. “They are amazing people and we are looking forward to the restaurant.”

The Pereiras also spoke before cutting the ribbon, thanking the community for its support and for making their family feel at home.

“When we first got married, I told her we would never move to Kentucky,” Irvin said with a laugh. “Now look, we have opened a restaurant and live right down the road.”

A huge round of applause rang out from the crowd as members of the commission, Ashland Alliance and the Pereiras cut the ribbon.

“This has been a great evening and we hope for many more like this in the future,” Mrs. Pereira said.

The new restaurant officially opens to the public today and has a startup menu consisting of salads, sandwiches and burgers with plans to grow the menu in the near future.

Blazer’s will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 to 3 p.m. and open Sundays with lunch specials.

“We are excited to see what Ashland has in store for us and hope everyone will come out.” Mrs. Pereira said.

Blazer's is located at 1624 Carter Avenue in Ashland.
