ASHLAND — An unknown person or party broke into Normal Presbyterian Church, but only made off with a small amount of change while rummaging through the building’s storage spaces, according to an Ashland Police Department report.

It was written in the report that the Winchester Avenue church was broken into some time between Jan. 4 and 9 when $20 in change was stolen from an interior closet.

It is suspected that the suspect entered the church through an unsecured window and forced open a locked office and closet doors.

Second Baptist Church, just off Winchester Avenue, reported a burglary to the APD last week.

According to the report, the incident is believed to have happened either Friday or Saturday after an unknown person or party damaged the security gate and windows in the annex and conference room in order to gain entry.

Nothing from Second Baptist was reported as being stolen.

Sexual abuse

‰An Ashland woman reported a known suspect subjected her to sexual contact without her consent.

The victim reported the abuse to the APD Sunday.

Assault

‰A resident of the 200 block of Carl Perkins Drive reported his former live-in girlfriend assaulted him, causing physical injury on Saturday night.

Possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substances

‰A person called the police while shopping at Kroger on Martin Luther King Boulevard after observing a woman acting oddly.

According to the report, the caller decided to phone police after a Kroger employee found drug paraphernalia in the bathroom after the woman left the area.

The woman was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, along with public intoxication.

Theft

‰A resident of the 4600 block of Boyd Street reported an he believed his brother had stolen several items of personal property from a garage at their mother’s residence.

Stolen items included a motorized wheelchair, five weed eaters, a washing machine, various hand tools and coil stock.

‰A resident of the 800 block of Highland Avenue reported an unidentified person of stealing various items from inside her vehicle, including $27.89 in cash, two stamps, an Alcatel phone and silver earrings.

‰Belk inside the Ashland Town Center reported a shoplifting incident Jan. 3 involving merchandise totaling $46.

‰Walmart on River Hill Drive reported a shoplifting incident Saturday involving merchandise totaling $66.26.
