CANNONSBURG – Model airplane pilots from the Tri-State will gather at a local airfield on Friday and Saturday for an annual fly-in event for all ages.

The Tri-State Model Flyers will be conducting the Eighth Annual Fly-In on Friday and Saturday at the club's airfield at Paul Coffee Industrial Park, located at 11902 Virginia Blvd.

“Attendees will be able to see radio controlled aircraft, helicopters and drones,” organizers said in a press release. “Some will be fueled and others electric. Aircraft will range from WWII to modern stealth aviation.”

Lane Walker, 10, of Grayson is one of many model airplane pilots who will be flying Friday and Saturday.

"Lane started flying in September 2018,” said the release. “He flies at a very high level thanks to a passion for aviation and a lot of practice flying different types of models both gas and electric. Lane is an example of how quickly today's youth with their great hand-eye coordination from playing video games and working mobile devices can learn how to fly remotes.”

The gates will open at 10 a.m. and admission is free and open to the public. It is advised that participants bring their own folding chairs. Participants can bring their own picnic lunch or purchase hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch, or a spaghetti dinner at the club house.

The club expects flyers from as far away as Tennessee and Indiana, as well as members from the Tri-State area. The fly-in is open to all ages.
