For the first time, the Ashland Senior Center has two holiday-oriented fundraisers planned.

On Nov. 2, the center will offer a class titled “Making Homemade Rolls for the Holidays.”

A lesson will be provided by Hermajean Wellman on making dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and breads. Those attending will have the chance to sample some of Wellman’s bakery creations. The class will meet in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Ave. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the center at 324 15th St. or by calling the center at (606) 324-7323. Proceeds will go toward needs at the center.

On Nov. 9, the center will have Thanksgiving Family Friend Feast. Dinner, which will be served at the center from 5 to 7 p.m., will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish, homemade rolls and homemade desserts, all prepared at the center by the staff.

“We have a spectacular cook on hand — Pam Watts,” center director Kim Rice said. “She is just a fabulous planner and cook and Geneva Robinette who works with her. They are just two excellent employees. They love the seniors almost as much as I do.”

Carryout orders will be available. Tickets are $5 per person and are available from board members and employees of the center as well as by calling the center at (606) 324-7323.

“I really wanted to have this fundraiser to make the public more aware of the center,” Rice said. “A lot of people are not aware that we’re here and this is something at a very minimal cost they can come and see what the center’s all about.”
