Don C. and Suzanne Figuiere Childers of Ashland will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary today with their children and other family members at their house.
They were married Dec. 22, 1945, at Notre Dame du Mont in Marseille, France, by the Rev. Colomb.
Mr. Childers was born in Auxier, a son of Don Sr. and Bess Bingham Childers.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Army, 34th division, 168th infantry in North Africa, Italy, Corsica and France. He also played with the 116th military band. He retired from CSX Ashland yard as a brakeman.
Mrs. Childers was born in Toulon, France, a daughter of Marin and Germaine Collomb-Figuiere. She served with the Junior Red Cross during World War II in Marseille. She taught French at Ashland Community College and retired after 18 years teaching French at Bellefonte Montessori School.
They are members of Holy Family Catholic Church. The couple have five children: Jerry Childers of Orlando, Fla., Terry (Kista) Childers of Ashland, Denise (John) McGill of Ashland, Dan (Lisa) Childers of Greenup and Carol (Chris) Pennington of Ashland.
