Carter couple arrested in crash

GRAYSON — A Carter County couple has been arrested in connection with a traffic crash last month that Kentucky State Police say stemmed from an illegal drug transaction.

Claude Duncan, 45, and Jennifer Duncan, 41, both were apprended this morning, according to a news release from the Ashland KSP post.

The Duncans were indicted Friday by a Carter County grand jury. Both were charged with first-degree drug trafficking. Jennifer Duncan also was charged with first-degree assault.

According to the KSP, the charges stem from a Feb. 15 crash at the junction of U.S. 60 and Ky. 182 in Carter County in which another woman was seriously injured and hospitalized for several weeks. An investigation revealed the collision was caused by the "wanton actions" of Jennifer Duncan, the KSP said.

Prior to the crash, the Duncans had made arrangements to engage in an illegal drug transaction involving several pills and several hundred dollars, the KSP said.  Arrangements were made to meet the accident victim in Grayson and complete the transaction.

After obtaining the pills from the Duncans, the woman left the area and was pursued by the couple.  It was determined the Duncans chased the woman for several miles throughout Carter County, the KSP said.

At the intersection of U.S. 60 and Ky. 182, Jennifer Duncan intentionally drove her vehicle into the vehicle being operated by the woman, the KSP said.  Evidence obtained during the investigation confirmed Duncan done so in an attempt to obtain the drugs and money from the earlier transaction.

The Duncans were arrested without incident, the KSP said. Both were lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Detective David Boarman.
