NCAA TOURNAMENT: Cats, Cardinals both play Friday night at 9:40

ST. LOUIS — Eighth-seeded Kentucky plays ninth-seeded Kansas State at 9:40 p.m. in a Midwest Region game in St. Louis.

The winner of that game will likely play top-seeded and undefeated Wichita State in the second round.

Wichita State plays the winner of California-Poly and Texas Southern in the round of 64. A No. 1 seed has never lost its tournament opener.

Louisville and Duke potentially wait as opponents for Kentucky should the Cats continue advancing. Louisville, despite a 29-5 record  and  champions of the AAC Tournament, was seeded fourth. Duke is seeded third and Michigan is second.

Louisville plays Manhattan, coached  by former UK player and Louisville Steve Massiello, on Friday night at 9:40 in Orlando.

Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Kentucky, the No. 15 seed in the South, plays second-seeded Kansas Friday at 4:10 p.m. in St. Louis
