ASHLAND — An alleged Walmart shoplifter was arrested after leading authorities on a vehicle pursuit Wednesday evening.
Stephanie R. Avery, 38, of Ironton, was lodged in the Boiyd County Detention Center on a host of charges.
The chase began after the Ashland Police Department received a report of a shoplifter fleeing Walmart in a gold Honda Accord. Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Jesse Staggs located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop and Staggs initiated a pursuit.
Staggs pursued the vehicle for three miles until it became boxed in behind another vehicle that had stopped for a red light. Avery was then removed from her car and arrested.
Staggs charged avery with second-degree fleeing or evading police, driving under the influence, reckless driving, following another vehicle too closely, license to be in possession, driving on an expired operator's license, failure to maintain insurance, failure to wear seat belts and disregarding a traffic control device. The APD is working the shoplifting case.
