COAL GROVE — A Coal Grove police officer responding to a call was involved in a crash and taken to St. Mary’s Medical center in Huntington on Wednesday afternoon.
The officer, Jake Emnett, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 52, near the twin bridges between Ironton and Coal Grove, when he lost control of the car near the overpass above Muth Lumber. The officer was able to crawl out of the car which became wedged in the guardrail underneath the bridge with the front of the car facing westbound.
Emnet was alert and speaking prior to being transported and was expected to be released from the hospital. He said he was wearing a seatbelt.
Witnesses said the cruiser appeared to be traveling at nearly 90 miles per hour when the accident happened.
Ironton and Coal Grove police departments responded along with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Ironton Fire Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Coal Grove fire chief and Lawrence County EMS.
