Arrest in 2011 murder

PORTSMOUTH —  Almost three years after an Ashland man was found dead in his burned-out car, police have charged a Portsmouth man in his murder.

Portsmouth police arrested Donald L. Richardson, 52, Tuesday afternoon and charged him with shooting Donald Kidd to death, police Chief Robert Ware said Wednesday.

Richardson was arrested on a secret indictment charging him with murder, felonious assault, arson, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Kidd, 51, was found dead in his burning car in a vacant lot in Portsmouth in May, 2011. Police say he was shot to death.
