BREAKING: APD probes gun report near Blazer campus

Students sheltered in place; situation resolved

ASHLAND — The Ashland Police Department has released the following statement:

"The Ashland Police Department requested Paul G. Blazer High School to shelter in place during an investigation nearby the campus this morning.

"The Ashland Police Department was investigating an anonymous call of a juvenile that was a non-student of Ashland Schools possibly in possession of a firearm.  The Ashland Police Department School Resource Officer and Field Operations Division officers were able to locate the juvenile at his home nearby.  The situation was resolved and the juvenile is being dealt with by the Court Designated Worker and the Juvenile Division of Boyd District Court.

"At no time was the juvenile on any school property armed.  The shelter in place was used as a precautionary measure due to the proximity of the juvenile’s home and the school campus. The shelter in place lasted approximately 15 minutes.  There was no threat directed to the school or anyone.

"Along with Ashland Independent Schools, the priority each day is to provide the safest learning environment possible for our children in the community.

"The Ashland Police Department is still actively investigating this incident and has no further statements to make at this time."
