Man charged in Elliott shooting

SANDY HOOK — Kentucky State Police on Sunday arrested an Elliott County man in connection with a shooting at a New Year’s Eve party.

Galen Conley, 58, of Dehart Road, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree terroristic threatening, according to a news release from the Morehead KSP post.

Conley was charged in the shooting of William Reed, 22, of Sandy Hook, which occurred about 1:22 a.m. Wednesday. According to the KSP, both men were attending a New Year’s Eve party when a fight broke out between them.

Reed was shot in the right shoulder. He was taken by a friend to Elliott County Ambulance Service and then transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he was released after treatment.

Conley was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation by Trooper Brandon Burton.
