An Ashland man was arrested for choking to death a 29-year-old Indiana man, who was formerly of Ashland, early Monday morning, according to a release from the Kentucky State Police.
KSP arrested Charles P. Wilhere, 45, after an investigation into a physical assault that resulted in the death of Aaron Adkins, who was visiting from Indiana during the Memorial Day weekend, in the 1400 block of Fairway Drive, which is near the Kyova Mall in the Cedar Knoll area.
KSP received a call for assistance from the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department pertaining to an alleged shooting on Fairway Drive. It was initially reported Adkins had been shot. However, that wasn’t the case.
Boyd County 911 received first word of the incident at 2:17 a.m. Monday. State Police were asked to assist at 2:48 a.m.
Upon arrival it was determined Adkins and Wilhere had been involved in a physical altercation that resulted in Wilhere choking Adkins and causing his death.
Wilhere was arrested and lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center and charged with murder without bond. He will likely be arraigned Tuesday morning on the charges.
The following agencies responded and assisted during the course of the investigation: Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, Boyd County Coroner’s Office and the Cannonsburg Fire Department.
The case is still under investigation by KSP Detective Jeff Kelley. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday in Frankfort for Adkins. No motive in the case has been reported.
