Carter man charged with drug trafficking

GRAYSON — Carter County authorities on Tuesday arrested a man on a drug-trafficking charge following a traffic stop.

Tracy Campbell, 48, of Grayson, also was charged with second-degree persistent felony offender, according to a news release from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department said Sheriff Casey Brammell and a deputy were patrolling at the junction of Ky. 1 and Ky. 7 when they spotted Campbell riding in a vehicle. The two lawmen were aware Campbell had outstanding warrants, so, after the vhicle turned onto Ky. 7, they initiated a traffic stop and placed Campbell under arrest.

Upon making the arrest, the two were informed Campbell had thrown drugs out the car window. The deputy searched for them and found pills and heroin in a ditch, the sheriff’s department said.

Authorities also seized cash and a cell phone from Cambell, who was lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.
