ANN DAVIS GALLERY

The Memorial Exhibit of the late Todd Walker and Jim Greenslate.

Introducing musician Michael Garvin as the artist in residence and instructor of the stringed instrument. Call the gallery for information.

The Potter’s Loft, under the instruction of master potter Bill Meadows, continues evening classes on Mondays and Tuesdays in clay using the wheel.

Work by Jennifer Spade is on display in the gallery window. Come visit with the artist on Fridays.

ART OF THE REDEEMED

STUDIO & GALLERY

The gallery is in Suite 206, on the second floor of the historic Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., in downtown Ashland. It is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.

Special Exhibit — Toothpick Constructions by Les Hayes which include a replica of his home, the “Spider Web House,” Cracker Barrel restaurants, the old Russell High School, houses, barns, churches and depots.

On Exhibit — New impressionistic landscapes and seascapes in oil by Kirtz. Also on exhibit are pastels, acrylics and mixed-media works.

On Exhibit — New contemporary works by Chapman in acrylic and mixed-media. He is accepting portrait commissions.

Openings are still available in classes or private lessons in pastel, acrylic and oil.

The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator and open by appointment.

BANANA TREE STUDIOS

BATH COUNTY MEMORIAL

LIBRARY

Today, 3 to 8 p.m. — Photographer Landon Dickerson of Salt Lick will have an exhibit of his work.

Dickerson’s work has been widely received for its unusual play with color and light. Subject matter ranges from eerie, unused train bridges to abandoned barns and buildings. He has won awards for his work, most recently for his shot of a cemetery, in which he used photo manipulation to create a surreal scene.



HIGHLANDS MUSEUM and

DISCOVERY CENTER

“A Night at the Museum — Highlands Style:” Friday, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Experience the Highlands after the lights go out and everything comes to life. Family friendly with surprising and startling twists to your basic museum tour. Join us as our student volunteers and some very special guests make your evening come alive with fun. Tours begin every 15 minutes. Cost $5 for non-members $2.50 for members. Advance tickets now available.

First Friday Art Walk: Aug. 3, 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum. The museum hosts the Kentucky Creative Arts Club Founders Day Exhibit opening. An annual favorite, this exhibit displays the best of regional two-dimensional art. Cost is free.

Meet Us at the Mall! Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the KYOVA Mall and Aug. 11 from noon to 2 at the Ashland Town Center for Planet Kid Day. Join the Highlands‚ student volunteers as they bring our traveling FETCH! Labs‚ challenges to back-to-school shoppers.

Special Exhibits

“Kentucky Creative Arts Club Founders Day Exhibit:” Aug. 3 through 31, 2007. Unique, two-dimensional work on display by Tri-State artists. From water colors to collage and oils, this display is always a public favorite.

“From Sea to Shining Sea: 200 Years of America’s Coast Survey:” Through Oct. 31, 2007. A pictorial exhibit from the Smithsonian and NOAA celebrating 200 years of accomplishments and scientific contributions in mapping our nation‚s coast. Photos, charts and artwork provide information and resources on boating, shipping, and maritime history.

“Styles and Textiles: Crazy Quilts From the 19th Century:” Visit our textile area where elegant fabrics and elaborate stitches were designed in unconventional and decorative ways for the Victorian home.

“FETCH! Challenge Lab:” Saturdays and weekdays in August: Try activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that you’ve seen on PBS’s FETCH! Activities are free with regular admission.

Special Student Events:

“Somewhere in Time!” Pick up your passport in our FETCH! Lab. Pack your bag and travel back in time, around the globe and toward the stars. Find our passport stamping stations and learn how people live around the world. On-going activities throughout the summer. Free with regular admission.



HUNTINGTON MUSEUM of ART

Art Classes:

Hand Building and Wheel Throwing for Adults — Through Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays with instructor Kathleen Kneafsey in Studio 4. Cost is $95 for HMA members and $120 for nonmembers.

Exhibits:

“Image of Appalachia,” a collection of more than 60 black-and-white photographs of Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia from the 1920s and 1930s, is on display.

“The Leming Gallery,” a collection of reminiscences reflected in the work of local artists Jim Marsh, Steve McClements, Billy Kersey, Buzzy Leming and Caroline Wilson will be on display.

Through Tuesday — Louisville Photo Biennial 2007 expo will feature six weeks of shows at 22 galleries, two museums and a national conference. The PENDLETON ART CENTER

The Pendleton Art Center at 1537-1539 Winchester Ave., Ashland, houses the studios of 38 artists and craftsmen from the Tri-State Area with a wide range of talents. Some studios are open daily; some are open by appointment with the artist. Contact information for artists is available in the lobby.

The Pendleton Art Centers and Newport on the Levee announce the opening of the Pendleton Art Center at Newport on the Levee, Plaza Level. ROWAN COUNTY ARTS CENTER
