ANN DAVIS GALLERY

“Strangers Whose Faces I Know” — An exhibit of paintings by the ACTCs art instructor Wendy Fosterwelsh.

ART OF THE REDEEMED

STUDIO & GALLERY

The gallery, in Suite 206 on the second floor of the Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., Ashland, is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.

Special exhibit — “Toothpick Constructions” by Les Hayes, which include a replica of his home, the Spider Web House, Cracker Barrel restaurants, the old Russell High School, houses, barns, churches and depots.

‰On exhibit — New impressionistic landscapes and seascapes in oil by Kirtz. Also on exhibit are pastels, acrylics and mixed-media works.

‰On exhibit — New contemporary works by Chapman in acrylic and mixed media. He is accepting portrait commissions.

Openings are still available in classes or private lessons in pastel, acrylic and oil.

The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator and open by appointment.

BANANA TREE STUDIOS

Evening art classes at the studio. Classes are limited to six to eight students, beginners to advanced. All classes are $110 for the sessions. Gift certificates are available.

DOODLES STUDIO & GALLERY

May 1, 5 to 9 p.m. — Reception to introduce “The Barns & Quilts of Fleming County: A Photographic Journey” by Carol Shutt. The public is invited to see the photography and some tasty offerings from the new Fleming County Homemakers Cookbook. “Clothesline of Quilts” will be on sale and wine and cheese will be served.

The show will run until June 6, when Doodles will have a new show, “The Fruits of Summer,” which opens at 5 p.m. on June 6.

Special Student Workshop

‰Ages 3 to 5 — “Every Child is an Artist,” a preschool playgroup designed for children and their caregivers. The final sessions will be Wednesday from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m., includes story time, art activity and playtime in the discovery center.

JESSE STUART FOUNDATION

Exhibits:

“Image of Appalachia,” a collection of more than 60 black-and-white photographs of eastern Kentucky and West Virginia from the 1920s and 1930s is on display.

“The Leming Gallery,” a collection of reminiscences reflected in the work of local artists. Jim Marsh, Steve McClements, Billy Kersey, Buzzy Leming and Carolina Wilson will be on display.

PAINTED COW GALLERY

Studio home for the Lawrence County Arts Council in downtown Louisa, 103 S. Main Cross St., across from the Lawrence County Court House. The gallery has a wide diversity of fine hand made artwork on display and for sale from artists from the Tri-State area and beyond.

“For the Love of Animals” is the featured exhibit this month.

Tuesdays — Artists Day. Bring your own supplies (except oils) and for $5 spend the day creating with other artists.

LCAC is looking for additional volunteers for this Saturday to meet at the gallery for a public art project.

THE PENDLETON ART CENTER

The Pendleton Art Center, 1537-1539 WInchester Ave., houses the working and retail sale studios of 38 artists and craftsmen from the Tri-State with a wide range of talents. Pendleton studios are open on the first Friday of the month from 5 to 9 p.m. for the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Ashland and from 2 to 6 p.m. on the next day for Second Look Saturday. The opening reception and awards will be on First Friday, May 2. The Upstairs Gallery will celebrate its fifth year anniversary.

Harp music will be by Aaron Yeager of Barboursville.
