Stephen Tirone, art professor at Morehead State University, will exhibit his pottery, paintings and sculpture: bronze, marble and wood. His work will be on display through March 31.

ART OF THE REDEEMED
STUDIO & GALLERY
On exhibit:
The gallery is in Suite 206, on the second floor of the historic Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., in downtown Ashland. It is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.
A new limited edition Giclee print will be available for sale, “Transformation” by Gail Kirtz.
On Exhibit — New abstract colored pencil drawings and other contemporary works by Chapman. Also on exhibit are several new works by Kirtz, including a new rendition in oil of “Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge.”
Classes are available in oil, acrylic and pastel.
Trumpet lessons and tutoring will be offered by Chapman at the studio. Chapman has a bachelor of music degree in trumpet performance from MSU and has performed professionally in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
April 21 and 22 — A two-day workshop in mixed media collage by Kirtz. Space is limited; registration required.
The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator.

BANANA TREE STUDIOS
On exhibit through the end of February will be works by Ann Olson, Wanda Morgan and Elsa Salyers.
The last Sunday of every month (unless it is a holiday), the studio will be the gathering place for regional artists. All artists are invited to the 5th Salon from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be a discussion on the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trail Web site. Artists are asked to being a piece of work (finished or in progress) to share with the group.

First Friday Art Walk: “The Faces of Hunger and Homelessness” — This exhibit inaugurates a new traveling photographic essay, the result of a survey conducted by the area’s Shelter of Hope. The focus for this exhibit is community awareness; the data and photographs demonstrate the impact and diversity of poverty in our community. Admission is free.
Special Exhibits:
“Styles and Textiles: Crazy Quilts from the Nineteenth Century” — Opens Friday. Visit our textile area where elegant fabrics and elaborate stitches were designed in unconventional and decorative ways for the Victorian home.
“Slam Dunk! The Basketball Memorabilia of John Carpenter” — This exhibit will continue through April 7. Catch Kentucky’s basketball fever and see the memorabilia and autographed pictures taken from the world-renowned collection of Firebrick’s favorite son, John Carpenter.
FETCH! Challenge Lab — Try the activities that you’ve seen on PBS’s “FETCH!” This month’s challenge is “Go Fly a Kite.” Exhibit is free with regular admission.
Professional Development Opportunities for Educators:
“STARLAB Training for Educators” — Learn the mechanics of teaching STARLAB, the portable planetarium and leave with information, samples and literature to integrate astronomy and the stars into classroom presentations. Participants are certified to rent STARLAB for use in school districts or organizations. “Pi Day” — Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. This workshop is just in time to incorporate Pi Day activities for grades 4th through 8th into math classroom curriculum. “Every Child is an Artist” — Wednesdays (March 7, 14, 21 and 28) from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. Preschool art experience for child and caregiver, includes story and playtime. “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words” — Through March 30 for grades K through 6th. Meet African American artist Jacob Lawrence and create a crayon-resist triptych that reflects his visual storytelling style. Student works will be automatically entered in the April student art show. “Circle’s Circus: A Pi Day Celebration” — March 12 to 16 for grades 4th to 8th. Take your place in our three ring circus and learn about the history of pi, make your own model that shows the parts of a circle necessary in finding the value of pi and learn to use your new found knowledge in a circular visual presentation. HUNTINGTON MUSEUM of ART
HMA is hosting ceramic artist Mike Vatalaro as a Walter Gropius Master Artist for a lecture, workshop and exhibit all of his work in March.
An exhibit of work by Vatalaro will be on view through March 11. He will speak about his work at 7 p.m. today at HMA. A reception will follow. Admission is free.

“A Romance with the Landscape: Realism to Impressionism” — This exhibit will run through April 1 at the HMA. This exhibit features works by Jules Breton, Julien Dupre, Honore Daumier, Charles-Francois Daubigny and Paul Signac, among others.
“American Impressionism: A French Connection” — This exhibit will continue through April 1. This exhibit features works by Clyde Hassam, Willard Leroy Metcalf and Edward Willis Redfield, among others.

“Tres Cher: Quintessentially French Works from the Collection of the HMA” — Will continue through April 8 and features work in a variety of media by artists such as Paul Gaugin, Maurice de Vlaminck, Auguste Rodin and Rene Lalique, among others.

JESSE STUART FOUNDATION
Exhibits:
“Image of Appalachia,” a collection of more than 60 black-and-white photographs of Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia from the 1920s and 1930s, is on display.
“The Leming Gallery,” a collection of reminiscences reflected in the work of local artists Jim Marsh, Steve McClements, Billy Kersey, Buzzy Leming and Caroline Wilson will be on display.

PENDLETON ART CENTER
Join us on March 2 for First Friday activities from 5 to 9 p.m. and on March 3 for Second Look Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
The Pendleton Art Center at 1537-1539 Winchester Ave., is home to artists from the Tri-State area who have a wide range of talents.
The studios are open for First Friday each month from 5 to 9 p.m. and the following day for Second Look Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The lobby is open by appointment with one of the artists.
The Left Bank Cafe — Now serving soup, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea and soft drinks during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The cafe is also open for First Friday and Second Look Saturday events.
March 2, 5 to 9 p.m. — Fine art photographer Jeff Ball will present his photography portfolio of the San Juan River in his gallery at the Pendleton. He will have a limited edition fine art portfolio featuring 16 of the images in a collector’s case for sale.

SPEED ART MUSEUM
The museum brings images that changed the way we view the world to Louisville. With more than 200 iconic works drawn from the world-renowned collections of the George Eastham House, this exhibition explores photography from 1839 daguerreotype to Sept. 11, 2001. On display from June 19 to Sept. 16, the exhibit will include restored and archived film clips from before 1923.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY
Michal Perrine Adams will remain the Featured Artist for the month of March. Her award winning watercolors took top honors with one sale in the recent Greenbo Art Show.
Kathleen Hollett received an oil painting award at the Greenbo Art Show, as well as Ron Haeberle for his watercolors. He took several awards and one sale.
