ANN DAVIS GALLERY
Lexington artist Erica Meuser will exhibit monotypes and paintings. Her expressionistic works are titled “In America’s Wake.”
March 3 through April 21 and March 4 through April 22 — New eight-week pottery classes taught by Bill Meadows. Classes will meet upstairs in the Potters’ Loft from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. For details, call (304) 654-9948.

STUDIO & GALLERY
The gallery, in Suite 206 on the second floor of the Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., Ashland, is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.
Special exhibit — “Toothpick Constructions” by Les Hayes, which include a replica of his home, the Spider Web House, Cracker Barrel restaurants, the old Russell High School, houses, barns, churches and depots.
‰On exhibit — New impressionistic landscapes and seascapes in oil by Kirtz. Also on exhibit are pastels, acrylics and mixed-media works.
‰On exhibit — New contemporary works by Chapman in acrylic and mixed media. He is accepting portrait commissions.
Openings are still available in classes or private lessons in pastel, acrylic and oil.
The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator and open by appointment.

Through March 6 — Book Marks 2008 will showcase wide-ranging contemporary approaches to the book as visual art object. The exhibition features contemporary book artist Miriam Schaer whose witty book sculptures push the boundaries of the book form and pull viewers into their narratives via sensory education.

March 7 — Spotlight is on the museum’s newest exhibit, “Mr. Lincoln’s War: The Civil War in Eastern Kentucky.” Admission is free.

‰Today, 7 p.m. — “Margaret Garner: Death Before Slavery.” Margaret Garner was a fugitive slave who in 1856, killed her child rather than have her taken back to slavery. (Not recommended for children). Protrayed by Erma Bush of Louisville as part of Kentucky Chautauqua and the Kentucky Humanities Council. Reception following the event.

‰Through March 28 — “Freedom’s Struggle: The Underground Railroad along the Ohio River in Kentucky and Indiana.” A black-and-white photographic display by Willie Johnson of 30 images chronicling the use of the Ohio River as a road to freedom.

‰March is National Youth Art Month andthe museum and discovery center has some great opportunities for your budding artist.
Ages 3 to 5 — “Every Child is an Artist,” a preschool playgroup designed for children and their caregivers. Sessions are on Wednesdays, March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m., that include story time, art activity and playtime in the discovery center.
Grades Kindergarten through Fifth — “It’s a Grand Ole’ Flag.” The President of the United States has asked you to redesign the American Flag for a special occasion. The workshop is offered throughout the year. Class tours may be scheduled by the school.

THE PENDLETON ART CENTER
