A published report in Louisville says a nonprofit corporation that was paid most of a federal grant now under investigation was dissolved a year before the deal was struck with a former University of Louisville dean.
The Courier-Journal newspaper reported Friday that the Illinois secretary of state's office confirmed the corporation had ceased to exist.
The newspaper also reported documents obtained under a Freedom of Information request showed the man listed as the corporation's director — Thomas D. Schroeder — was paid by the University of Louisville from Jan. 1, 2005, until April, 2008.
Federal authorities are investigating whether a $694,000 grant that was administered by former U of L education dean Robert Felner was mishandled.
Felner's attorney Scott Cox declined comment to the paper, but has previously denied any wrongdoing by his client. Schroeder did not return calls to the paper.
