Elderly woman killed in house fire

Lexington — A house fire in eastern Kentucky has killed an elderly woman and seriously burned a man.

Jackson County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Hacker told the Lexington Herald-Leader the home in Sand Gap burned early Thursday morning and said the fire might have been caused by a gas heater.

Hacker said a 79-year-old woman didn't make it out of the house and was killed.

He said a man who was in the house was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington with severe burns.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
