CANNONSBURG Boyd County opened up its follow-up season to its breakout 2017 by doing something it couldn’t do even while improving its win total by 17 last year.
The Lady Lions knocked off the Lady Rams, 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 27-29, 25-20) on Thursday, ending an 18-match series skid that dated to Boyd County’s last win over Raceland on Aug. 27, 2007.
Raceland coach Ryan Biederman was generally optimistic, even as the Lady Rams dropped to 1-3.
“I’m very, very proud of my athletes tonight,” the first-year coach said. “They fought hard ... I saw potential in my team tonight.”
Biederman credited senior hitters Sidney Rister, Alandra Valandingham and Madyson Smith for keeping the Lady Rams in the game.
The Lady Lions and Lady Rams are scheduled to meet again Sept. 13.
