Camp Nabe is a special camp for ages 8 to 16 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The three-day camp began Tuesday and runs through Thursday at Asbury Woods Retreat Center.
Community Hospice of Ashland has offered Camp Nabe for 15 years and includes children from throughout a nine-county service area.
This year’s camp offers more than 20 children the opportunity to meet in a secure and accepting environment to share their experiences with others who have suffered a similar loss.
Camp Nabe offers a safe place for sharing experiences, understanding the cycle of life and exploring feelings of grief.
Each camper is assigned a Big Buddy during the stay who will participate in daily activities and are available for individual support.
Professional staff facilitates group discussions and activities so campers can better understand and express their own feelings. Activities include swimming, fishing, water games, a confidence course, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, singing and more.
Camp Nabe is offered free to the children or families.
