Ashland native and Arizona pitcher Brandon Webb took to the mound on a cool and rainy afternoon in Cincinnati to open the 2008 baseball season against baseball’s oldest professional team.
Webb — who was able to work his way to about 30 tickets for the sold-out crowd — was pitching in front of family and friends, including his parents for the first time on Opening Day. His wife, Alicia, and daughter, Reagan, were also at Great American Ball Park.
The game was delayed for nearly an hour after a series of showers rolled through Cincinnati in the afternoon, but the Reds and the Webb-led Diamondbacks were able to play to a conclusion on the first full day of baseball in the majors. Webb got the win as Arizona beat the Reds, 4-2.
