Work on Laurel Creek

March 18, 2009 10:42 pm

Two groups worked the remediation of Laurel Creek on Wednesday in Rowan County. A one-mile stretch of the creek was damaged four years ago by county road construction. The county is finishing up the remediation project by agreement with the EPA and the Kentucky Division of Water. County crews and volunteers were out planting 1,800 trees Wednesday morning, which completes the project.
Also working the creek is Morehead State graduate student Audrey Richter and two assists who are monitoring the health of the stream during the time of damage and the remediation period.
The remediation came at a cost of $200,000 to Rowan County.
