Two local students have received scholarships to attend Morehead State University.
Stephanie Tolle McNeal, daughter of Harold Tolle of Vanceburg and the late Nina Tolle, received the Clifford R. Addie R. Rader Nursing Scholarship.
The graduate of Lewis County High School is a graduate student in nursing.
The scholarship was established by the estate of Addie R. Rader in honor of her mother, Mrs. Frank Ritter, and her husband, Dr. Clifford Rader.
Joshua P. Tharp, son of Clarence and Georgia Tharp of Greenup, has received the Frances Edmunson, Department of Music and Regents scholarships.
He is a senior music education major and a graduate of Greenup County High School
To be eligible for the Edmunson scholarship, an applicant must be a full-time undergraduate music major who has attended MSU a minimum of eight semesters, is enrolled and in good standing and in need of financial assistance to complete a degree.
To receive a Department of Music Scholarship, a recipient must be a music major and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and have unmet financial need as determined by the University’s Office of Financial Aid.
To be eligible for a Regents Scholarship, a student must have above average grades and ACT test scores. Valued at $2,500 per year, the scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the recipient maintains the required grade point average.

Asbury College senior Brandon Brown of Flatwoods has been named the new intramural student director for the college.
He will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in business management. He is a son of William and Karen Brown of Flatwoods.
During his time at Asbury, he has been heavily involved with the intramural council and during his junior year, he ran spring and fall soccer leagues and winter basketball and volleyball leagues.
He is a 2003 graduate of Russell High School.

The following Paul G. Blazer High School students were selected for KMEA All-State Chorus.
Leah Jaenicke, Rebecca Thompson, Devin Hale, Chace McKenzie and Zach Pruitt will perform at the KMEA Professional Development Conference in Louisville on Feb. 9.

Lenae Harvey, Danyelle Hughes, Melanie Jarvis and Audra Thomas were invited to join Marshall University’s Society of Black Scholars.
They are students at Paul G. Blazer High School.
