Andrea Sands, daughter of Marvin and Lynda Sands of Carlisle, Ohio, and granddaughter of Cecil and Samantha Sands of Louisa, graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., with a doctorate in physical therapy on Aug. 11.
She also recently passed the National Physical Therapy Examination and is a traveling physical therapist for CompHealth, one of the nation’s largest providers of healthcare recruiting and staffing services. Her first placement will be at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

The following students were awarded scholarships at Morehead State University.
Katherine M. Aylor, a senior, daughter of Jim and Sue Aylor of Franklin, Ohio, and a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School, received a Clifford R. and Addie R. Rader Nursing Scholarship.
This scholarship was established by the estate of Addie R. Rader in honor of her mother, Mrs. Frank Ritter, and her husband, Dr. Clifford Rader.
To be eligible, the applicant must be full-time and enrolled in MSU’s prelicensure and post licensure baccalaureate nursing program. Recipients must maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
Rachel Faye Gool and Stephanie Gool, daughters of Brian and Linda Gool of Ashland and graduates of Boyd County High School, are recipients of Dr. Lawrence and Stellarose Stewart Scholarships.
To be eligible, the applicant must be an education major from Boyd or Carter County in Kentucky or from Florida, Ohio, West Virginia or Tennessee.
They also received Transfer Scholarships and Bennie Shields Memorial Scholarships.
They are sophomore elementary education majors.
Jaclyn S. Kiser, daughter of Lynne Arnett and a graduate of Boyd County High School, received the Robert and Helen Holbrook Memorial Scholarship.
She is a junior chemistry major.
Eligibility is based on majoring in a health profession, preferably from Rowan County, who show evidence of financial need. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.5
Thomas Archibald Rigsby, son of Douglas and Christine Rigsby and a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School, has received the Ashland Enrichment Scholarship.
He is a senior P-5 and LBD (special education) major.
This is a merit-based scholarship to benefit MSU students pursuing a degree at the regional campus.
Sarah B. Robinette, daughter of Keith and Julie Robinette of Catlettsburg and a graduate of Boyd County High School, received the Alicia G. Vallotton Music/Theatre Scholarship.
She is a sophomore theater major.
To be eligible, students must have an outstanding participation in music and theatre programs and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Kristina Smith, daughter of Ronnie and Diane Smith of Catlettsburg and a graduate of Boyd County High School, received the Carolyn Flatt Scholarship and Nevilynn Tackett Throckmorton Memorial Scholarship Endowment.
She is a junior elementary education major.
To be eligible for the Carolyn Flatt Scholarship, a student must be a full-time nontraditional undergraduate and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The Nevilynn Tackett Throckmorton Memorial Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students studying to become teachers in MSU’s College of Education. Recipients must have a minimum of GPA 3.3 and admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
Cassie Wenning, daughter of Richard Wenning and Sally Wenning of Ashland, received the Nursing and Allied Health and Clifford R. and Addie R. Rader Nursing Scholarships.
She is a senior nursing major and a graduate of Rose Hill Christian School.
The Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship is available to applicants majoring in nursing or an allied health field with preference given to students from the University’s service region. Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate student, enrolled in the program and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Gregory Conn, son of Thurman and Janet Conn of Olive Hill, was the recipient of the Mountain Telephone Scholarship.
He is a graduate of Elliott County High School and a freshman biology major.
The scholarship is awarded to students from Morgan, Bath, Menifee and Wolfe counties who are enrolled at MSU.

Paul G. Blazer High School graduate and Transylvania University junior Barclay Spriggs is spending fall semester studying in Brighton, England, at the University of Sussex.
Transylvania has an extensive study abroad program and students have studied in countries throughout the world from Britain and France to India and Australia. Nine other Transy students are studying abroad.
Spriggs, an English major, is the daughter of William Spriggs and Cheryl Spriggs, both of Ashland.
