Morehead State University seniors Tyler Harris of Pikeville and Josh Tharp of Greenup are recipients of the 2006 American Federation of Musicians Scholarship awards.

The $1,000 awards will be applied toward their music studies at MSU. A juried national application process selected the recipients. Harris is pursuing a bachelor of music degree in jazz studies and Tharp is a bachelor of music education major.

The following students completed 64 hours of classroom instruction at the Tri-State School of Phlebotomy at 1324 Cannonsburg Road, Ashland.

Completing the course were Tanya Eplion, Rhonda Kearns, Melissa Persons, Sally Patrick, Ann Ramey, Sherry Rye and Jacqueline Snyder.

The school is licensed by the state and is a member of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. The coordinator and instructor of the school is Virginia W. Cieraszynaski, B.S., M.T. She is a 45-year veteran in the fileld of laboratory medicine and received her laboratory management certification from Cornell University in Buffalo, N.Y. She also is licensed in West Virginia.

Paul Webb, formerly of Ashland, has a radio show that can be heard from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on the Internet at KDVS.org.

The senior at the University of California/Davis is a 2003 Paul G. Blazer High School graduate. He is studying soil science and viticulture. He is the son of Stuart Webb of Ashland.

Hannah Dingess, daughter of Jennifer Lynd of Russell, was among those who participated in the summer 2006 Commonwealth Honors Academy.

Sixty-three high school seniors returned to Murray State University to reunite with fellow participants and CHA faculty and staff.

The three-week residential program for top students was in June.

Students who complete the program receive six hours of university credit, have the opportunity to take three hours of tuition-free university courses at MSU during the fall and spring semesters of their senior year in high school; and will be awarded housing/leadership scholarships to attend MSU.

She is a senior at Russell High School.

Rebecca Wente, a freshman at East Carter High School, and Andrew Trimble of Van Lear were selected as members of the Kentucky Child Now Youth Advisory Council.

Members range from ages 13 to 24 and after a year of service on the council will be qualified to receive a $500 scholarship to any Kentucky university, college or vocational school.

The 15-member council works with the KCN Board of Directors on decisions and policies that impact Kentucky’s youth; provides leadership for the annual Great Kids Summit; promotes youth involvement in their school and community; and provides state and local community service projects.
