Two area students were part of Morehead State University’s theater touring troupe that performed at the grand opening of a cultural arts center in Greenup County on Sept. 30.
The Little Company, under the direction of Dr. Bob Willenbrink, chairman of the university’s Department of Communication and Theater, presented “How Can I Keep From Singing” at the gala opening of the Raceland-Worthington Independent School District’s Cultural Arts Center in Raceland.
The troupe, supported by an endowment from the W. Paul and Lucille Caudill Little Foundation and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, has performed for audiences throughout the state and conducts Kentucky Education Reform Act-based workshops for students and teachers.
Members of The Little Company include Christian Jeans, a Falmouth sophomore; and Zach March, a Falmouth freshman.

Cadet Alexander M. Shoaf, son of Ralph and Janelle Shoaf of Morehead, has completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy.
He was among approximately 1,300 cadet candidates who concluded their training with a 12-mile road march from Camp Buckner to West Point on Aug. 7. New cadets were officially accepted into the Corps of Cadets during the Acceptance Parade on Aug. 12.
He graduated from Rowan County Senior High School in 2006 and plans to graduate from West Point in 2010 and will commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Justin W. Gaines and Eric R. Gross, students at Russell High School, have been named Commended Students in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students in the country are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2007 competition by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
