Michael Scott Kelleman of Ashland was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.

To be named, a student must achieve a 3.25 or better grade point average. He is a junior mathematics major.

He also received the Hackman Scholar Award.

Christopher John Kelleman graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on May 25. He majored in history and minored in physics.

They are both graduates of Paul G. Blazer High School and are sons of Dr. and Mrs. John Kelleman of Ashland.

Tyler Hieneman, son of Steve and Nancy Hieneman of Greenup, was presented the Class of Kentucky Award for Greenup County High School on July 20.

He was selected from his peers of sophomores last year based on GPA and PSAT and ACT scores, school and national honors and school and community involvement.

He is a member of the GCHS varsity baseball and golf teams, Athletic Training Club, Beta Club and active in the youth group at First Christian Church in South Shore.

He is the grandson of Bill and Mary Ellen Hieneman of Greenup and Bill and Jo Ann Adkins of South Shore.

The following students will receive radiology certification from King’s Daughters School of Radiologic Technology on Aug. 12.

The students completed two years of classwork and clinical experiences. Upon graduation they will work in diagnostic radiology, which includes x-ray and fluouroscopy.

They include Phoebe Adkins, Amber Cornett and Brienne Queen, all of Ashland; Jon Campioni of Ceredo-Kenova; Michelle Jude of Louisa; and Suzanne Ratliff of Flatwoods.

Kathryn Sparks, daughter of Kevin and Shirley Sparks of Ashland, has been chosen as a research assistant funded by the Reid and Polly Anderson Scholarship Endowment.

Sparks and 36 other Denison University science majors are spending their summer conducting in-depth research projects in the sciences with faculty members.

Sparks, a senior, is a 2003 graduate of Findlay (Ohio) Senior High School and is majoring in biology at Denison.

She will work on a project titled ISSR-PCR Analysis of the Evolutionary Origins of the Albama Grapefern with associate professor Warren Hauk.

This summer program began in 1986 as part of the Anderson Scholarship Endowment and recognizes outstanding students in the sciences and supports one-on-one faculty research activities. The late Denison trustee J. Redi Anderson, along with his wife, Polly, established the Anderson Program in the Sciences with a $1 million plus endowment.

Six students from Boyd County graduated in May from the University of Louisville.

Angela L. Gilliam of Catlettsburg received a doctor of medicine degree.

Zenaida Renee Lockard of Ashland received a juris doctor degree. She is a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School.

Lindsay J. Newcomer of Ashland received a bachelor of science in justice administration and a bachelor of science in sociology. She graduated magna cum laude and is a graduate of Russell High School.

Ashley R. Sartaine of Ashland received a bachelor of arts in political science. She graduated magna cum laude and is a graduate of Russell High School.

James Warren Rice of Ashland received a doctor of medicine degree. He graduated magna cum laude.

Katherine E. Valentine of Ashland received a bachelor of fine arts degree. She is a graduate of Russell High School.
