Heather Bocook, daughter of Allen and Robin Bocook of Ashland, has received several scholarships.

The 2006 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School received the Kentucky Educational Development Corp. and Tim Horton’s scholarships and the Eva Smith and Whitson/Lano scholarships from Eastern Kentucky University.

She will attend EKU and major in forensics.

A production team of students, faculty and staff of the Ohio University Southern electronic media department were recently awarded two Telly Awards for “Imagine Ashland,” a multimedia DVD that promotes the Ashland area. The DVD was created for the Ashland Alliance.

The team from OU Southern was awarded a Telly for Non-Broadcast Video Production and OUS videographer Brad Bear earned a Telly in the scriptwriting category.

The Telly is a national and international competition and receives more than12,000 entries annually. It honors outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as video and film productions.

Several faculty, staff and students contributed to the production including Don Moore, executive producer; Bear, producer/writer/camer/editor; Rhonda Holschuh, production coordinator; Isaac Stambaugh and Joe Barta, camera; and students Gina Lewis, Sean Daniel, Jon Alemkinder and Ernie Hall.

The following students with local connections were named to the dean’s list at Georgetown College for the spring semester. To be eligible, a student must have at least a 3.7 GPA and earn 12 hours.

They are Ellen Stacy Bertram, daughter of Treva Hord of Farson, Wyo., and William C. Bertram of Vanceburg; Ellen Marie Farinelli, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Long of Catlettsburg; Jeremy Seth Patrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Patrick of Ashland; Jessi Lynn Patton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Patton of Olive Hill; Ruth Elisabeth Powers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Powers of Ashland; Paul David Rakes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Rakes of Catlettsburg; Cassandra Dawn Simpson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James David Simpson of Greenup; Alexandria Frances Smiley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Smiley of Ashland; Melissa Dawn Stewart, daughter of Linda J. Stewart of Ashland; Amber Nicole Tackett and Ashley L. Blake Caudill, son of Mike and Debra Caudill, has been named the recipient of the Dr. William P. Eidson Scholarship given for academic achievement and leadership qualities.

He is a 2006 graduate of Boyd County High School and will attend Georgetown College and major in biology. He wants to attend medical school and become a radiologist.

Amanda Young of Flatwoods has been named the Regional Campus Outstanding Graduate by Ohio University Southern. She is a recent graduate of OU Southern with a bachelor’s degree in business and business economics.

The award honors the business student with the highest GPA at one of Ohio University’s regional campuses.

She was a nontraditional student and competed an associate’s degree at Ashland Community College. She has received awards from the Southern Branch for Student Center Volunteer and Outstanding Academic Achievement. She has accepted a position with Natural Resource Partners in Huntington and will pursue a master’s degree in the future.

Two 2006 Boyd County High School graduates have been awarded the Vannatter Memorial Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship is based on academic merit and community service.

Latisha Eaton, daughter of Robert and Debra Lunsford, plans to attend Ashland Community and Technical College and major in nursing.

Allison Pankow, daughter of William and Gloria Pankow, plans to attend Morehead State University and major in math.

The first May Family Scholarship was awarded to Erin Smith, a recent Fairview High School graduate.

The $1,000 scholarship is based on academics and community service.

Smith is a daughter of the late Vickie Rymer and was raised by her aunt, Terry Clark, and her late grandmother, Ina Rae Rymer. She plans to attend Morehead State University’s prechiropractic program.
