Maria Lee Fitzgerald, daughter of James and Garnet Fitzgerald of Catlettsburg, has been named to the president’s list for the spring semester at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
To be named, a student must be full time and achieve a grade point average of 4.0.
She is a 2005 high honor graduate student of Boyd County High School and is a member of Kappa Delta Tau sorority at EKU.
She is a sophomore majoring in journalism.

Russell High School student Brittany Picklesimer was named international champion in the senior division on-site scenario writing competition at the 2006 Future Problem Solving International Conference on June 4.

Four local students received bachelor of arts degrees from Transylvania University on May 27.
Brent Craft, son of Robert and Janeann Craft of Greenup, graduated summa cum laude in philosophy.
Julie Potter, daughter of Terry and Beverly Potter of South Shore, graduated with honors in accounting.
They are graduates of Greenup County High School.
Trista Johnson graduated cum laude in accounting. She is a daughter of Richard and Deborah Johnson of Raceland.
She was a member of the Accounting Honorary Society and is a finance manager for the Family Guidance Center of Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization.
Timothy Meko, a digital imaging and application design major, graduated with honors in art. He is a son of Joseph and Kathleen Meko of Russell.
They are graduates of Russell High School.
