Words of thanks

ASHLAND — The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) recently had its 30th annual event at Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland. It was at this event that I got my start with the AJGA in 1998. Over the years I’ve seen this tournament grow into one of the most prestigious events on the AJGA schedule.

At its inaugural event 1984, the Bluegrass Junior Invitational, as it was then known, was one of only 16 events held by the AJGA. That number now has grown to 102.  Despite that tremendous growth, the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior still “sets the bar” for others in every imaginable way.  The last 30 years would not have been possible if it were not for the generous people of Ashland and Bellefonte Country Club.

I thank Nick Carter and Natural Resource Partners for sponsoring the event and Jeff and Barbara Conley and Amanda Bowling for the enormous effort they put into making it so special.  I also thank the Bellefonte membership and staff and all the local volunteers for allowing us to return each year. I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention our appreciation for Tom and Pat Cooksey who have donated their time over the last 30 years serving as our Tournament Chairs for the first 16 years and as the Chair of our Rules committee for the last 14 years.

Words cannot convey how truly thankful we are to have such wonderful friends in Ashland!
